• E - D Level -Understand that ponies learn by trying new things. Understand what can be a reward to a pony. Recognise that ponies like rewards when they try to do something correctly.
• D+ - C Level - Understanding how ponies learn from the consequences of their actions. Identifying different types of rewards that can motivate a pony. Understanding why rewarding the correct behaviour encourages the pony to repeat it. Understanding the term positive reinforcement and being able to explain what it means.

Members will explore how weather, temperature, turnout and seasonal conditions affect pony care, and how we can adapt our routines to keep our ponies healthy, comfortable and happy all year round.

Description: This is training for those members looking to take part in the spurs test on 23 December 2026.
There are strict rules around who takes the spurs test and candidates have to be put forward by their branch. We’ll use the first training session to ascertain the levels and if the instructor feels that the appropriate level is not achievable within the time frame, the candidate will have to take their test at a later date.
All candidates will be able to attend all of the sessions regardless of whether they are put forward for the December test date.
Please ensure you ride the pony you will taking your spurs test on.

What do you do when you and your pony arent quite in sync. This fun, interactive rally challenges riders to spot common riding problems and work out how to fix them!
We’ll tackle issues such as ponies falling in or out, losing rhythm, rushing, being heavy in the hand, not going forward or falling onto the forehand. Riders will learn practical ways to improve their pony’s way of going through their position, balance, pace and aids.
Rather than simply being told the answer, riders will be encouraged to think, try different solutions and discover what works for their pony.
For our younger and lead rein riders, we’ll have fun, age-appropriate challenges focusing on steering, rhythm, stopping and starting, keeping their pony moving and riding confidently and independently.
A great rally for developing problem-solving skills, confidence, feel and a better understanding of how to communicate with your pony.

Members will learn how to identify common birds, understand how they interact with horses and ponies, and develop their knowledge of wildlife, safety and responsible yard management.
