Description: A fun and practical theory session focusing on how ponies learn and how we can encourage them to learn in a positive way.
Topics covered...
• E - D Level -Understand that ponies learn by trying new things. Understand what can be a reward to a pony. Recognise that ponies like rewards when they try to do something correctly.
• D+ - C Level - Understanding how ponies learn from the consequences of their actions. Identifying different types of rewards that can motivate a pony. Understanding why rewarding the correct behaviour encourages the pony to repeat it. Understanding the term positive reinforcement and being able to explain what it means.
• C+ - B Level - How learning and reinforcement influence a pony’s behaviour. Why timing is important when giving a reward. How to use positive reinforcement effectively and consistently. Identifying appropriate and inappropriate rewards in different situations. Explaining how positive reinforcement can help develop confidence, trust and willingness to learn in a pony. Applying their knowledge to real-life examples and discussing why particular approaches may be effective.
